The Gun Rabbi

They have picked up the "Times Square Bomber" and -- surprise! -- the news is that he's a Pakistani Muslim with ties to the Taliban. For the record, this is the sort of terrorism that the Gun Rabbi has for some time been predicting in the US in general and in NYC specifically; B"H ("Thank G-d") I've been wrong until now.

Now it may have been obvious to you & me that this was another Jihad nut case, but somehow our Democrats who "represent" us in government don't seem to be able to grasp that. For example, Mayor Bloomberg offered this insight:

"If I had to guess, twenty five cents, this would be... [h]omegrown[,] maybe a mentally deranged person or someone with a political agenda that doesn't like the health care bill or something. It could be anything."

Yes, that's right -- while Islamic fanatics try to murder us for fun, Democrats demonize the political opposition of the majority of the US public who are against ObamaCare. Apparently, opposing ObamaCare makes me a potential terrorist.

And here I thought I was a Patriot who believes in the Constitution. Silly me.

A Law & Economics paper at the Yale Law School analyzes some twenty years of data on gun storage; the authors compare violent crime and accidental injury data across jurisdictions with differing requirements for "safe" gun storage -- locks, trigger locks, separating ammunition, etc.

The result? Gun lock-up requirements have no impact on reducing accidental deaths or injuries, but they do serve to keep one very select population safer: the criminals. You see, if the State makes me lock up my gun, it's going to take me longer to get to it when the Bad Guy breaks into my home... and that does wonders to keep the criminals safe and keep the victims in danger. Specifically, "the group of fifteen states that adopted [gun lock-up] laws faced an annual average increase of over 300 more murders, 3,860 more rapes, 24,650 more robberies, and over 25,000 more aggravated assaults" compared to comparable states with no such laws.

Does your state make you lock up your guns? What are you going to do about it?

Following the Heller decision, all the liberal news fools warned that violent crime would soar as otherwise ordinary citizens would shoot each other over neighborly disagreements.

Well, here we are, more than one year later, and guess what? Washington, DC has seen the lowest number of homicides since 1964, a 25% drop compared to the year prior to Heller.
